The Shifa Clinic is part of a group of clinics that this space hopes to highlight in the next few weeks.
From correspondence with the Shifa Clinic, located 435 Hawthorne Ave, Athens, GA 30606, it becomes clear that they will play a vital role in protecting vulnerable communities and in serving the public health of Athens Clarke County.
"In partnership with the Georgia Department of Health, the clinic is offering FREE pre-screening for COVID-19 via telephone hotline for anyone in the state of Georgia. Individuals potentially showing symptoms of COVID-19 can call (706) 431-7334 to communicate with clinical staff, free of charge. If an individual is determined to be at high risk, medical professionals will be available to advise patients on next steps. The hotline is available each day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. A hotline in Spanish will also be available at (706) 407-1864 starting Sunday, March 29."
"The clinic is also distributing 200 FREE backpacks with hygiene products, sanitary items, feminine products, toiletries and food items for low-income residents. Backpacks can be picked up between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at 435 Hawthorne Ave, Athens, GA 30606. Materials were provided by The Backpack Project Inc.

"Although in-person clinic hours have traditionally held between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, this altered schedule will remain in effect until further notice. Typically, the clinic offers services including Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, Family Medicine, Nephrology, Psychiatry, Nephrology, Psychiatry, Neurology and Pediatrics."
